Londongrad
I think this is a good project to show off my process for creating an illustration. It was a tight deadline which meant I had to be super organised with my communication. I couldn’t afford any misdirection or misunderstandings. It helped that the art director for this was really helpful and professional. Thank you Tim Ball.
The concept
Tim chose to go with 14 Cornhill trapped in a vise. We agreed on the dimensions and I got to work. By the evening I had drawn a rough ink version ready to be coloured.
The brief
24 hour deadline for a half page editorial illustration to go with an article on the seizure of property from Russian and Libyan billionaires. The main thrust of the article emphasised the tight restrictions imposed on Libyan owned London properties and whether the government would choose to do the same with Russian owned properties. I came up with four design ideas and sent over a sketch sheet within two hours. Please ignore the spelling mistakes.

Design
I coloured the image on photoshop and added a few more details. Then I sent Tim a series of colour options to choose from.
We went with the clear background as it seemed like it would work well for the in-print version. We picked the red background for social media and there you have it. One completed illustration ready to print in less than 24hrs. Voilla
