PSILOCYBIN

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in many species of mushrooms. Psychedelic compounds have been used throughout history by many cultures around the world in shamanic rituals to catalyse the religious experience. Until recently, the therapeutic efficacy of psychedelics has been overlooked due to their association with cultural unrest in the latter half of the 20th century. Recent studies have shown that psychedelics, specifically psilocybin, can be used effectively in combination with psychotherapy to treat mental health disorders such as treatment resistant depression and post traumatic stress disorder. 

My intention with this illustration was to play with the well known tropes of psychedelic imagery such as dissonant colour scheme and surrealism. The subject is reclined at the bottom of the frame to reflect the reclined patient lying on the therapist's bed.
